A little background: So for the last month or so CVS Pharmacy has been having school supplies on sale just like everyone else. But, CVS has taken it a step further and advertising certain things for free (when using your card) after extra buck rewards.
So this morning, at 9:30 am, I pack the kids in the van and go to CVS expecting to get my free ink pens, filler paper, mini notebooks, and pencil boxes. Except that they do not have any pencil boxes. What, no pencil boxes, it is only 9:30 on Sunday morning, the day the sale started. They have to have pencil boxes, my kids already planned what they were going to keep in their pencil boxes, they HAVE to have pencil boxes. So after searching the school supply aisle with a fine tooth comb we finally asked where they were. Guess what, they DO NOT have any pencil boxes. WHAT? You have got to be kidding me. I was told by the cashier that they only had ONE pencil box and someone already bought it. WHAT?
Now isn't that false advertisement? The ad does not say "While supplies last." In fact it says "Extra Bucks offer limit of 2 per household with card." You would think that they would at least have 2, if not 80 or 100 of these pencil boxes. Of course they probably think if they get you in the store for the free items that you will go ahead and buy the $4.99 pencil boxes when the free ones are gone. In fact isn't that Bait and Switch?
Now you may be thinking that I am some crazy lady getting all steamed up about a silly little pencil box. But it was 2 pencil boxes! And this isn't the first time this has happened. Sure they gave me a rain check, but 3 weeks ago they gave me a rain check for scissors and rulers, and do you know they still don not have those items in stock!
So what do you guys think, am I crazy, or is CVS just practicing illegal advertising tactics?
